Connect via the official WhatsApp Cloud API (Meta)

How to connect a number using Meta's official Cloud API in Zapini, with credentials and a registration PIN, plus when to use Coexistence.

Updated on

What Cloud API connection is

The WhatsApp Cloud API is Meta's official connection. Instead of scanning a QR Code, you use credentials generated in the Meta panel. It is the recommended option for businesses that want official stability, verification and higher message volume.

To use this method you need a Meta for Developers account with the WhatsApp product configured.

What you will need

  • The number's Phone Number ID from Meta.
  • The WhatsApp Business Account ID (WABA ID).
  • A valid access token.
  • The number's 6-digit registration PIN.

Step by step

  1. In the menu, open Instances and click New instance.
  2. For connection type, choose WhatsApp Cloud API (Meta).
  3. Paste the Phone Number ID, WABA ID and access token into the matching fields.
  4. Enter the 6-digit registration PIN. Zapini uses this PIN to officially register the number with Meta.
  5. Save. Zapini validates the credentials automatically.

If the credentials are correct and registration completes, the status changes to connected and the number is ready to send and receive messages.

💡 Tip: store the registration PIN somewhere safe. You may need it again if you move the number to another provider or re-run registration.

Coexistence mode (app + Cloud API)

Coexistence lets you use the same number in the WhatsApp Business app and the Cloud API at the same time. It is useful when your team still replies from the phone, but you also want Zapini's AI and automation to work on that number.

With Coexistence, activation happens during Meta's Embedded Signup with the app option enabled — in this mode you do not enter a registration PIN. Messages sent from the phone also appear in Zapini's history.

Verifying the connection

  • The status should read connected.
  • The number joins the global instance selector, next to any QR Code numbers.
  • Send a test message in Messages to confirm the flow.

If validation fails, review the credentials and the PIN — most errors come from an expired token or an incorrect Phone Number ID.

Frequently asked questions

No. The Cloud API uses Meta credentials (Phone Number ID, WABA ID, token and registration PIN) instead of a QR Code.
The official Cloud API uses the number only through the API; Coexistence lets you use the same number in the WhatsApp Business app and the Cloud API at the same time, without a registration PIN.
The 6-digit PIN is set in the Meta panel when you configure the number. Zapini uses it to officially register the number.
